SIP
With the SIP skill, the nomos app answers calls from a door intercom. On the nomos system Controller you create a SIP connection: the SIP account the app registers as, the server it registers with and, optionally, a door opener. Every app the connection is assigned to registers with this account at the SIP server. When someone rings at the door station, the app rings; the resident answers, talks to the visitor, sees them if the door station sends video, and opens the door with Open.
The app connects to the SIP server itself, not via the controller. The controller only stores the connections and hands them out to the apps.
WARNING
Before you start: you need a SIP server that offers SIP over WebSocket (address in the form wss://…), with an account on it for the app. The door station must call this account. The app speaks SIP over WebSocket only; a server that only offers SIP over UDP or TCP cannot be used directly.
The app only answers calls; it cannot place calls itself.
Creating a SIP connection
- Under Skills, switch the SIP skill on with ON.
- Click Add. New SIP connection opens.
- Fill in the fields:
- Name — what the connection is called in the list and in the app, for example "Front door".
- AOR — the SIP address (address of record) of the account the app registers as, in the form
username@domain. You can leave out the leadingsip:; the app adds it. - Server — the WebSocket address of the SIP server, for example
wss://sip.example.com:8089/ws. For a new connection the field is prefilled with an address on the controller (wss://<address of the controller>:8089/ws); replace it with the address of your SIP server. - User assignment — Everyone or a single user. The connection appears only in the apps signed in with this user; with Everyone, in every app.
- Opener — the component that opens the door (see Door opener). The field appears only if such a component exists.
- Enabled — the app registers only enabled connections at the server. Clear the checkbox to take a connection out of service for a while without deleting it.
- Under Advanced, enter the credentials of the SIP account (see Advanced options).
- Click Save.
Name, AOR and Server are required.
The list shows each connection with Name and Last updated. Use the pencil to edit a connection (Edit SIP connection) and the × to delete it after a confirmation. As long as there is no connection, the list says "No SIP connection set up yet."
The apps apply changes immediately: they reload the connections and register at the server again.
Advanced options
Under Advanced are options that the app passes unchanged to its SIP library (SIP.js). Add further options with the Add... selection and remove them with the × next to them. The link Description of advanced options. leads to the description of all options at SIP.js. The option names appear in English in every language, except Username and Password.
A new connection comes with these options:
- Username and Password — the credentials the app uses to register at the SIP server. They are prefilled with the placeholders "User1" and "1234"; replace them with the details of the SIP account.
- Log Builtin Enabled, Log Configuration and Log Level — only control the app's internal log. Leave them at their defaults.
- Graceful Shutdown — when disconnecting, ends open calls and the registration properly instead of dropping them. Leave this option on.
Also often useful:
- Display Name — the name the app gives to the other party.
- No Answer Timeout — after how many seconds an unanswered call is rejected. Without a value, it is 60 seconds.
- Authorization Ha1 — instead of the password, its HA1 hash, if your SIP server supports it.
Door opener
Opener offers all components that can open a door, for example a door station you have added as an add-on from the online library (e.g. DoorBird). If there is no such component, the field is missing.
If an opener is selected, the app shows the Open button during the call. It triggers the opening at the selected component, through that component's own connection, not through the SIP connection. Without an opener, the button is missing.
In the app
If a connection is enabled and assigned to the user, the app registers at the SIP server when it starts. On Android it asks for access to the camera and microphone for this.
- When a call comes in, the app shows the caller's name with Decline and Answer.
- During the call: Mute, Hangup and, with an opener, Open. If the door station sends video, the app shows the picture.
- Auto answer this caller — from then on, the app answers calls from this caller by itself, with the microphone muted.
- The app handles only one call at a time. A second call while the first is running is not shown.
Under Settings → SIP, the resident chooses the Ringtone for each connection and a Do not disturb period during which the app does not ring; this is also where callers that are answered automatically are removed. These settings apply only to that device. If a Passcode is set in the app, the SIP entry can only be reached with this code.
Troubleshooting
- Is the connection accepted? In the app under Settings → SIP, each connection shows Connected or Not connected, and below it, if there is a problem, Error: with the last error message.
- The connection does not appear in the app: check Enabled and the User assignment. The app only shows connections assigned to Everyone or to the user it is signed in with.
- Not connected: check Server — the address must start with
wss://(orws://) and be reachable from the device the app runs on. As the app connects directly to the server, this also applies on the go: if the SIP server can only be reached in the home network, the app does not ring when you are away. If the server uses a certificate forwss://that the device does not trust (a self-signed one, for instance), the device usually refuses the connection. - Connected, but nothing rings: check AOR, Username and Password, and whether the door station calls exactly this account. Check in the app whether Do not disturb is currently active.
- Only one device rings: all apps of a connection register with the same account. Whether all of them ring is decided by the SIP server; it must allow several simultaneous registrations per account.
- The Open button is missing: select an Opener for the connection. If the Opener field is missing, there is no component yet that can open a door.
