Z-Wave
The Z-Wave integration allows you to connect and control Z-Wave compatible devices directly through the nomos system Controller.
A Z-Wave USB dongle is required for the direct connection of Z-Wave devices to the nomos system Controller.
Since Z-Wave is a wireless protocol, it's important to pay attention to the physical placement of the controller. The nomos system Controller (with Z-Wave USB dongle) should be placed centrally in the building to ensure optimal range and signal strength in all directions.
WARNING
Important: Use a USB extension of at least 30 cm between the dongle and the nomos system Controller.
Z-Wave Integration:
- Activate Integration:
- Click the on button to activate the Z-Wave integration.
- Manage Devices:
- This button opens a menu where you can manage the available Z-Wave devices. Here, you can add, edit, or restart the network scan to find hidden devices. When pairing devices, make sure to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions and user manuals for each product. Depending on the manufacturer, certain steps may need to be performed directly on the device.
- Remove Device:
- This option allows you to remove Z-Wave devices from the network. Make sure to correctly remove the device from the network before physically disconnecting it to avoid communication issues. Again, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions and user manuals for specific steps that may need to be done on the device itself.
- Network Update:
- With this button all devices look up their neighbours again, so the routes in the Z-Wave network are recalculated. This is useful after devices were added or their positions in the building changed.
- Confirm the prompt with Update. The update can take a few minutes; battery devices follow as soon as they wake up.
- Reset:
- This function completely resets the Z-Wave network and removes all added devices.
- Warning: This function should only be used if all devices are removed and the network needs to be set up again, as all configurations will be deleted.
INFO
Notes:
- Z-Wave devices communicate through a mesh network, meaning each device can relay signals to other devices to extend the range.
- Before resetting the network, make sure to back up all important data.
- When making changes to the network, use the “Network Update” to optimize communication between the devices.

Manage Devices: Interview and Delete
The Manage Devices window lists all nodes of the Z-Wave network. For each device, nomos shows whether it was recognised by a profile (Profile found) or automatically (Autodetected), and the Compatibility in percent.
- Unknown device – Nodes without a device description, for example because the interview did not finish, are listed as Unknown device with their node number and the note "No device description found - run an interview." You cannot add them, but you can interview and delete them.
- Interview – asks the device for its properties again. When the interview is complete, the list reloads; a previously unknown device may then be recognised.
- Delete – after a confirmation ("This cannot be undone."), removes the node from the controller as a failed node.
From version 3.2.0, nomos adds garage door and gate openers that support the Z-Wave Barrier Operator function as garage doors; you open and close them like other garage doors.
WARNING
Delete in Manage Devices does not exclude the device from the network. It is meant for defective or missing devices. Remove a working device with Remove Device (see above).
Device Configuration
Every Z-Wave device has its own configuration page. You open it with the gear icon Configuration on the device card in the Z-Wave device list or below the device name on the device page. The bar at the top shows the device name and contains Cancel and Save.
- Wakeup Interval:
- "Battery powered devices only - the wakeup interval of the device, in seconds." At this interval the device wakes up and reports to the controller.
- Parameters:
- The configuration parameters come from the manufacturer's device description. Each entry shows the name and number (Parameter n) and, if available, a description. Depending on the parameter, you pick a value from a list or type it in.
- See the device's manual for the meaning of the values.
- Save:
- nomos sends the wake-up interval and the parameters you changed. If the device has no parameters, the page shows "No settings available."
