HEOS

With the HEOS integration you bring the Denon and Marantz speakers and AV receivers with HEOS built in into nomos. Every speaker and every zone of a receiver appears as a music player in the nomos App, can be controlled in automations and scenes, and plays speech announcements and sounds. As with Sonos, the HEOS favorites, the inputs of a receiver and groups come with it.

Setup

  1. Switch the skill on:
    • Under Skills → HEOS, click On.
    • The nomos system Controller then looks for the HEOS system on the network and keeps a connection to it; the skill page shows through which device. During the initial setup, the automatic device discovery switches the skill on as soon as it finds a HEOS device.
  2. Add a device:
    • Click "Add Device". The list shows the players of the HEOS system with model and address: speakers and AV receiver zones. Devices already added are greyed out.
    • Choose a device and give it a name and a room.

INFO

Notes:

  • The devices must be switched on and on the same network as the nomos system Controller.
  • If the IP address of a device changes, nomos finds it again by itself.
  • Favorites need a signed-in HEOS account. Sign the HEOS system in with the HEOS app. If none is signed in, the skill page shows a note and the action "Play Favorite" finds nothing. nomos stores no HEOS credentials.

In the nomos App

The device appears as a music player: playback, volume and mute; title, artist, album and cover, and for tracks with a known length also the position. For radio and for an input of the receiver, the player shows the station or the input. It also shows the music source (e.g. TuneIn, Spotify) and, in a group, its leader.

Actions in automations and scenes

The actions are named as for Sonos:

ActionNote
Play, Pause, Stop, Toggle

Fade Volume Tobrings the volume to the target step by step within a few seconds
Sleep Timer (min)stops playback when it runs out; 0 switches it off

Groupvolume, Group Mute On, Group Mute Offact on the whole group
Play Stream URLan http or https address, e.g. of an internet radio
Play TuneIn Stationenter the name of the station, e.g. "Radio Swiss Jazz"; the first station whose name contains all the words entered is played
Play Soundone of the nomos sounds
Play Speechas for Sonos

Available triggers: Is Playing, Is Paused, Is Stopped, Volume Level, Mute, Groupvolume, Group Mute and Coordinator. During a speech announcement or a sound the device reports no changes: the triggers only see the state before and after the announcement.

Not available: browsing music services, playlists and editing the queue. The skill does not control the receiver itself (power, sound mode, further zones).

Speech announcements and sounds

For an announcement or a sound, nomos remembers the volume, mute and what is playing. It stops playback, sets the announcement volume, plays the announcement and always restores volume and mute afterwards. Then:

  • If an input of the receiver was playing (e.g. the TV sound over HDMI ARC), nomos switches it on again.
  • If a HEOS favorite or a stream that nomos started was playing, it plays again.
  • If something else was playing (e.g. a track from Spotify), it stays silent after the announcement.

In a group the whole group hears the announcement; the group stays as it is. The announcement volume applies to the device chosen, the others keep theirs. If several announcements hit the same group, they play one after the other.

AV receivers wake up from standby for an announcement, and nomos cannot switch them off again afterwards. This is why announcements and sounds are switched off for receivers after adding them and switched on for speakers. On the skill page you can change this per device with "Allow announcements and sounds". If it is off, an announcement on this device is left out.
