Management

With Management, one nomos system Controller looks after further Controllers: you see their status, update and back them up, and prepare them for handover to the customer. The devices of the managed Controllers also appear on the managing Controller.

The Management entry appears in the sidebar only if the Controller's license includes Management. A Controller that is to be managed needs a matching license of its own; on it, Advanced shows the Management tab with Pairing.

Setup

As long as Management has not been set up, the page shows Not configured. The Setup button leads through three steps; Cancel in any of them leaves everything unchanged:

  1. The note that the setup is a one-time process – continue with Continue.
  2. CIDR – the network of the VPN through which the managed Controllers are connected (default 172.16.28.1/24). Each managed Controller receives an address from it; the size of the network limits their number.
  3. Server IP – the address at which the managed Controllers reach this Controller. The default is the address you used to open the configuration interface.

The setup creates a VPN server on the Controller. It cannot be changed afterwards.

Adding a Controller

  1. On the Controller that is to be managed, switch Pairing on (On) under Administration → Advanced → Management. While it is on, the Controller announces itself in the local network.
  2. On Management, it appears under Available Controllers; the list is searched again every 10 seconds. Click Add. If it is not found, for example because it is in a different network, use Add Manually. Open opens its configuration interface in a new window.
  3. In the Controller dialog, enter IP/Host, Username and Password of a user of the Controller to be managed and click Add.
  4. The Controller to be managed asks Confirm management?. Confirm within 45 seconds with Confirm.

The managed Controller then creates an administrator account of its own for Management, sets up the VPN tunnel to it and switches pairing off again. A Controller can be managed by at most three Management Controllers.

Controller list

Controllers lists the managed Controllers. Above it, a banner shows All controllers online, All controllers offline or how many Controllers are offline.

  • Status – the connection status.
  • Name – serial number and name, below them the description as well as model and version. Clicking the row opens the detail page (see below).
  • Actions – Log opens the Log, filtered to this Controller. Open opens its configuration interface in a new window. The cross (Delete) removes it from Management after a confirmation.

The search field finds Controllers by name, serial number and description. Display switches between table and tiles.

INFO

Delete removes the Controller only on Management. On the managed Controller, the pairing remains listed under Advanced → Management; delete it there if the Controller is no longer to be managed.

Detail page of a Controller

On Management, each managed Controller is a device. Its device page opens with the Management tab:

  • Description and Contact – free text stored on Management. The description appears in the Controller list and is found by the search.
  • Info – Version, Model and Serial number of the Controller. Check for Updates asks for new software; if an update is available, Install Update installs it after a confirmation and restarts the Controller.
  • Advanced – Log, Configuration (opens the Controller's configuration interface), nomos system App (opens its app) and Restart (after a confirmation).
  • Setup for new User – Start runs Setup for new User on the managed Controller, with the same entries and the same consequences as there. Download Document downloads the document created in the process again, E-Mail Document sends it to a Receiver.
  • Configuration – Backup Configuration creates a backup on the managed Controller. Its backups are listed below; each can be downloaded, restored with Restore or deleted.

If the Controller cannot be reached, the buttons are locked.

The device's name is the name of the managed Controller: if you change it on Management, the Controller name of the managed Controller changes as well.

Devices of the managed Controllers

Management takes over the rooms, zones and devices of the managed Controllers and keeps them up to date. Exceptions are cameras and devices for which Share with Management is switched off on the managed Controller, in the General tab. For most devices it is on; if you switch it off, the device disappears from Management.

On Management, the device page shows under Controller which managed Controller a device belongs to; the name leads back to Management. Devices of Management itself are marked (local). The name, icon and type of a device taken over cannot be changed on Management – change them on the managed Controller.
