KNX Address Management

When you click on the Addresses tab in the KNX menu, the following dashboard appears. This provides an overview of all current KNX projects and manually added group addresses.

Dashboard Explanation:

  1. Projects:

    • Here, all uploaded KNX projects are displayed.
    • The table shows the following information:
      • File Name: The name of the uploaded KNX project, e.g., "abc.knxproj".
      • Name: The project name.
      • Last updated: The date when the project was last updated or uploaded.
  2. Actions:

    • Several actions are available for each project:
      • Address List: Click this button to view the group addresses of the project.
      • Delete: Use this button to delete a project if it is no longer needed.
  3. Manually Added Group Addresses:

    • In this section, you can add group addresses manually if they are not included in an uploaded project.
    • To add a new address, click on Add New Address. A dialog will open where you can enter the details for the group address (e.g., address, name, and type).

Addresses/Address List

When you click on Address List for a KNX project, the following overview is displayed. This address list shows all group addresses of the respective KNX project and allows you to manage and adjust addresses..

Overview of Adress List:

  1. Address:
    • This shows the group addresses defined in the KNX project.
    • Example: “0/0/0” for switching devices.
  2. Name:
    • The name of the group address describes what the address is used for, e.g., “Light/Socket/Switch Devices” or “Button Input ON/OFF”.
  3. Type:
    • Here, you can select the data type for the respective address. The system offers various KNX Data Point Types (DPT) that define the type of communication, for example:
      • DPT 1.001 Switch: For switching functions.
      • DPT 1.003 Enable: To activate/deactivate functions.
      • DPT 1.011 State: To display the status of a device.
  4. RoS (Read on Start):
    • If this box is checked, the group address will be read at system startup to check the current status. This can be helpful to ensure that the system always knows the current status of devices.
  5. Actions:
    • Delete Address: Here you can remove group addresses that are no longer needed by clicking "Delete Address."

Add Manual Address

If you want to add a new group address manually in the KNX project, a new window will appear.

  1. Enter Address:
    • Please enter the desired group address in the format X/X/X (e.g., “1/2/3”).
    • This field is required and must be filled out correctly.
  2. Name of the Address:
    • Give the address a name that describes its function (e.g., “Living Room Light”).
  3. Set Type:
    • Select the appropriate data type (DPT) for the group address. This determines what kind of data or commands will be sent or received through the address.
  4. Reading on Startup (optional):
    • Check this option if the address should be read at system startup to capture the current status.
    • This feature is useful when it is important to know the state of a device at startup.
  5. Save or Cancel:
    • Click on Save to add the group address to the system.

Exporting group addresses for the ETS

From version 3.2.0, you can export the group addresses you created in nomos as a file for importing into the ETS. An ETS project then starts with the installation's address structure, including names and datapoint types; you link the devices in the ETS afterwards.

  1. On the Addresses tab, click Export next to Manually added group addresses. The Export group addresses dialog opens.
  2. If you like, tick Include the addresses of the ETS projects. It appears only if at least one KNX project has been uploaded.
  3. Choose the format: XML for the ETS (recommended) or CSV.

The browser downloads the file knx-group-addresses.xml or knx-group-addresses.csv, and nomos reports Group addresses exported. with the number of addresses. If the export fails, the error message appears in the dialog.

What the file contains:

  • Without the tick, only the manually added group addresses. The addresses of an uploaded project are already in that project; imported into the ETS project they come from, they would only collide with the existing ones.
  • With the tick, also the addresses of all uploaded KNX projects, for example for a new ETS project or to carry names and types changed in nomos. If an address exists both in a project and as a manual entry, the manual entry wins.
  • In both cases, main and middle groups carry the names from the uploaded projects, so the structure matches the existing ETS project. Groups without a name are called "Hauptgruppe 1" or "Mittelgruppe 1/2" (in German, whatever the language).
  • Each address with its name, datapoint type and, if there is one, description. An address without a name carries its address as its name. nomos writes the datapoint type in the ETS notation; an address without a recognisable type stays without a type in the file. Add it in the ETS then.

Which format?

  • XML for the ETS (recommended) is the format in which the ETS itself exports group addresses, in UTF-8. It keeps every character unchanged.
  • CSV is the ETS's three-level CSV file, for example for a spreadsheet. It is written in the Windows character set (Windows-1252) that the ETS expects when importing CSV; characters outside this character set appear as "?".

Import the file in the ETS in the group addresses view.

INFO

nomos cannot create a complete ETS project (.knxproj): the ETS opens such a project only with a project signature bound to an ETS licence. Group addresses need no signature.
