ZigBee

The ZigBee integration allows you to connect and control devices that support ZigBee directly through the nomos system Controller.

A ZigBee USB dongle is required for the direct connection of ZigBee devices to the nomos system Controller.

WARNING

Important: Use a USB extension cable that is at least 30 cm long between the dongle and the nomos system Controller.

ZigBee Integration:

  1. Status:
    • The banner at the top shows the state of the ZigBee controller, for example Connected, or an error message if the dongle is missing or not ready.
    • Before using ZigBee devices, make sure that the ZigBee USB dongle is plugged in.
  2. Buttons and Options:
    • Manage Devices: This button opens a menu where you can manage the connected ZigBee devices. Here, you can add, edit, or remove devices. When pairing devices, follow the manufacturer's instructions and operation manuals for each product. Depending on the manufacturer, some steps may need to be done directly on the device.
    • Settings: Here, you can adjust the network settings and other configuration options for the ZigBee integration.
    • Reset: This option is used to reset the ZigBee integration. Use this carefully as it will return all ZigBee settings to their factory defaults.

Removing a Device

In the Manage Devices window, every device has a Delete button. Devices without a recognised description are listed there too, as Unknown device with their address; you cannot add them, but you can delete them. After clicking Delete, choose:

  • Block from joining again – The device is put on the block list: if it tries to join the network again, the controller rejects it. You lift the block in the ZigBee Settings under Block list.
  • Force remove – The controller only deletes the device from its own database, without signing it off the network.

Without Force remove, the controller asks the device to leave the network. Battery-operated devices must be awake for this; the window points this out: "Battery-operated devices must be woken up once to be deleted."

The device in nomos remains and is then shown as not reachable. If you no longer need it, also delete it with the × on the device card or with Delete Device on the device page.

WARNING

Force remove is meant for devices that no longer respond, for example because they are defective or already removed. The device itself is not informed and still considers itself paired. Reset it according to the manufacturer's instructions before pairing it again.

Device Configuration

Every ZigBee device has its own configuration page. You open it with the gear icon Configuration on the device card in the ZigBee device list or below the device name on the device page. The bar at the top shows the device name and contains Cancel and Save.

  1. Firmware update:
    • When the page opens, nomos checks for new firmware for the device. The button in the bar then reads Update Device or, greyed out, No Update available.
    • After you click Update Device, nomos asks: Update the firmware? – "The device cannot be reached during the update. Do not cut its power." Confirm with Update.
    • During the update, the button shows the progress in percent. Depending on the device, an update can take a long time. Afterwards nomos reads the version again.
  2. Device settings:
    • Which settings appear depends on the device. Labels and descriptions come from the device description and are in English. Depending on the setting, you enter a number (some with a unit and a preset list), a text or a pair of numbers, tick a checkbox or pick a value from a list.
    • For battery-operated devices, unreachableTreshold comes first: the time in minutes (default 120) after which nomos marks the device as not reachable if it has not reported.
    • Philips Hue lamps offer the behaviour after a power failure: hue power on behavior, plus brightness, colour temperature or colour. OSRAM/LEDVANCE lamps offer remember state.
    • Save applies the values and sends them to the device. If the device has no settings, the page shows "No settings available."
