DLNA
With the DLNA integration you bring DLNA players into nomos: TVs, AV receivers and network speakers that announce themselves on the network as a "MediaRenderer". They appear as music players in the nomos App, can be controlled in automations and scenes, and play speech announcements and sounds. Sonos speakers have a skill of their own, Sonos.
Setup
- Switch the skill on:
- Under Skills → DLNA, click On.
- The nomos system Controller then keeps looking for DLNA players on the network. During the initial setup, the automatic device discovery switches the skill on as soon as it finds one.
- Add a device:
- Click "Add Device". The list shows the players found, with model and address; devices already added are greyed out.
- If a device is already brought in through another skill, the list says so, e.g. "Also added in the skill Google Cast". Bring a device in through one skill only where you can.
- Choose a device and give it a name and a room.
- Approval on the TV: Some TVs (LG) ask on their screen the first time whether to allow nomos. Confirm it once on the TV; it remembers it afterwards.
INFO
Notes:
- The device must be on the same network as the nomos system Controller.
- If the IP address of a device changes, nomos finds it again by itself.
- Many TVs cannot be reached on the network in standby. nomos then shows them as unreachable and connects again as soon as they are switched on.
- On some TVs (Panasonic) the DLNA player occasionally disappears while the TV is running. nomos then shows it as unreachable; after the TV is switched off and on again, it is back.
In the nomos App
The device appears as a music player: playback, volume and mute; title, artist and cover as far as the source provides them, and for tracks with a known length also the position. For radio and other live streams, the player shows the station name.
nomos only sees what plays over DLNA. What the TV itself shows (programme, apps, HDMI inputs) is not visible to nomos.
LG TVs report a stream that nomos started as stopped, although they play it. nomos therefore shows it as playing until it is stopped through nomos or something else is started. If someone switches over with the remote control, nomos does not see it. LG TVs also tell their volume only while they play something over DLNA; otherwise nomos shows the last one known.
Actions in automations and scenes
The actions are named as for Sonos:
| Action | Note |
|---|---|
| Play, Pause, Stop, Toggle | acts on what is playing over DLNA |
| Next Song / Previous Song | if the device offers it |
| Volume Level, Volume up, Volume down, Mute On, Mute Off | |
| Fade Volume To | brings the volume to the target step by step within a few seconds |
| Sleep Timer (min) | stops playback when it runs out; 0 switches it off |
| Play Stream URL | an http or https address, e.g. of an internet radio |
| Play TuneIn Station | enter the name of the station, e.g. "Radio Swiss Jazz"; the first station whose name contains all the words entered is played |
| Play Sound | one of the nomos sounds |
| Play Speech | as for Sonos |
Available triggers: Is Playing, Is Paused, Is Stopped, Volume Level, Mute. During a speech announcement or a sound the device reports no changes: the triggers only see the state before and after the announcement.
Not available, because DLNA does not offer it: favorites, playlists, groups, inputs.
Speech announcements and sounds
For an announcement or a sound, nomos remembers the volume and what is playing, plays the announcement and always restores the volume afterwards.
- If a stream that nomos started was playing, it goes on afterwards.
- If something else was playing, it stays silent after the announcement.
- nomos only sets an announcement volume of its own if the device tells its volume beforehand and it can be set back afterwards. Devices that do not tell their volume (LG TVs among them) play announcements at their own volume.
Devices with a screen (TVs) break off the running programme for an announcement and show their home screen afterwards. This is why announcements and sounds are switched off for TVs after adding them. On the skill page you can change this per device with "Allow announcements and sounds". If it is off, an announcement on this device is left out.
Stream, TuneIn station, play/pause and volume work on all devices, TVs included.
