Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people ask most often.

If something does not work, you find help under Common problems.

General

Do I need an internet connection?

Not at home: the app, the browser and Matter apps talk directly to your Controller in your home network. You need the internet for remote access on the go, for Alexa and Google Home via the nomos cloud, and briefly once when Matter is activated for the first time.

Which devices and brands does nomos work with?

The Controller connects devices from many manufacturers and systems, including KNX, free@home, Wiser by Feller, Zeptrion Air, Lutron, Philips Hue, Shelly, Eltako, Somfy, Sonos, Nuki, Netatmo, Miele, Home Connect, Husqvarna as well as Z-Wave, ZigBee and MQTT. Your integrator can tell you whether a particular device can be integrated in your home.

Which smartphones and browsers are supported?

The nomos system app runs on iPhone and iPad and on Android. At home, you can also operate nomos in the browser; on the go, only with the app. The exact versions are listed under Requirements.

Can I try out the app before I have a Controller?

Yes. With Demo on the start screen, you can get to know the app with sample data. You do not switch any real devices, and some settings are locked. More on this: Install the app and connect the Controller.

Is my nomos updated automatically?

The Controller usually installs security updates by itself, in a time window set by your integrator. Admins are informed by push notification one week in advance. New versions with new functions are installed by your integrator, or by the Controller automatically if it is set up that way.

How do I reach my integrator or nomos support?

You find your integrator's contact details in the app under Settings → Infos. What to do if you cannot reach them is described under Contact.

App and operation

Can I operate several homes with one app?

Yes. The app remembers every Controller you have connected to once, for example your apartment and your holiday home. You switch via the Controller icon in the header or under Settings → Controller. More on this: Several homes.

How do I stop children or guests from changing settings on the tablet?

Under Settings → User, set a four-digit Passcode. Configuration, Controller and Logout are then only reachable with this code. The code only applies to this device. More on this: User.

How do I create my own scene?

Tap Scenes and then Add Scene. In the Scene Editor, choose the devices and their settings, and save. If Add Scene is missing, your integrator has not enabled scene editing for you. More on this: Scenes.

Can I start scenes with Siri, from the home screen or with the Apple Watch?

Yes. On the iPhone with Siri, widgets, Control Center and quick actions, on Android via shortcuts on the home screen, and on the Apple Watch in the nomos system app. Scenes you have marked as favorites are the quickest to reach. More on this: Smartphone extras.

Account and users

Am I allowed to add devices or change rooms myself?

That depends on your permissions. If your integrator has allowed it, you can add devices that are easy to integrate yourself, for example Philips Hue or Nuki, with Add Device under Settings. Only admins can change rooms, zones, schedules and automations. For changes to the permanently installed system, your integrator is the person to contact. More on this: Who does what? and Adding a device.

How do I change my password?

Under Settings → User → Change password. Enter your current password and the new one twice. If you have forgotten it, read I have forgotten my password.

Someone wants to sign in and I am supposed to approve it. What do I do?

The person has chosen Forgot password? on the sign-in page and is asking for approval. Compare the code shown with the one on their device. Only approve the sign-in if you know the person and they have just asked you to; otherwise decline. More on this: Incoming requests.

What does the app learn about me?

If usage recording is switched on, nomos learns from how you operate your home and gives you suggestions on the Overview. The data stays on your Controller. How to switch off the link to your person is described under User.

Remote access and nomos cloud

Do the nomos cloud or remote access cost anything?

No. The nomos cloud account and remote access with the app are free of charge. You do not need a cloud account for Matter or for remote access. More on this: nomos cloud account.

Can I delete my nomos cloud account?

Yes, in the nomos cloud under your user account with Delete account. Your account and all associated data are permanently removed. This cannot be undone.

Voice assistants and Matter

Does nomos work with Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa?

Yes. Via Matter, you add your Controller to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and other Matter apps, without a cloud account. Alternatively, Alexa and Google Home work via the nomos cloud. Only this way also transfers scenes and locks. More on this: Other apps and voice assistants.

Do I need a HomePod or an Apple TV for Apple Home?

Yes. Most apps need a hub from the respective provider: for Apple a HomePod or an Apple TV, for Google a Nest speaker or Nest display, for Amazon an Echo with Matter support. More on this: Matter.
